Today on the ol’ blog, I present to you my inaugural “Is it just me?” post: quarantine edition. I’m curious…am I the only person with the following struggles?

#1 Screen time shame.

Oh my goodness. Did anyone else do a double take when their quarantine screen time “weekly report” notification popped up on their phone? Ouch. This is what my report should have said:

#2 Facebook “People you may know” awkwardness.

In other far-too-much-screen-time news…I’ve spent more time than usual on Facebook. (That Holderness family is hilarious.) Anyhow, I’ve found myself regularly scrolling through the “people you may know” list. I’ve mindlessly done it so many times now that it’s going to be super awkward if I ever meet any of these people in public. I’ll spend the entire conversation fighting the urge for internal monologue to become external dialogue. “Oh, you’ve changed your hair!” … “I almost didn’t recognize you after you changed your profile picture last week.” … “I thought you’d be taller.” … “Whoa, that must have been a really old profile picture.” … “I want to hear about your trip to Spain.”

I’m genuinely concerned that this could become an issue once the great quarantine is over.

#3 Losing my mind trying to transfer files from my iPhone to my computer.

During quarantine, we’ve been making a bunch of ridiculous videos with our iPhones. Unfortunately, I own a PC. Perhaps it’s just me, but it seems as though Apple made it as difficult as possible to transfer your videos from your phone to your computer. I’ve tried everything: phone-to-usb drives, wired connections, uploads to Google Drive, transfer via Microsoft Photos, yelling angrily into the air, blowing into the USB slot like it’s an original Nintendo cartridge, etc. All of these futile efforts led me to the discovery of a universal truth: Apple is the master of getting your hopes up to the point of “Hey, I think it’s going to work this time!” only to crush them by disconnecting when the transfer is 75% complete.

For any of you out there who share my frustration: I was finally able to find a solution. There’s an app called SimpleTransfer app. There’s a free version and a paid version. As long as you connect your phone and computer to the same WiFi, it works. If you know of a better way, please let me know! I’ll be forever in your debt.
